What The World Needs Now Is Love Sweet Love

Something that still frustrates me today is how some people can be so closed-minded when it comes to gay people. Science tells us that we’re all made of the same stuff, and my personal belief is that if something created life and the universe it must have had a reason for why we’re “all” here.

I believe it is to grow both spiritually and as a person, but it certainly doesn’t seem like someone is growing in any way if they can’t try to understand others and see there can be good in someone no matter what their sexual preferences are. When I try to understand others, not only am I able to find good in most people but also love the good I find in them.

Now in all honesty I can’t say I love everyone, and there are some people I don’t like, but I refuse to hate anyone. Hatred can consume us and prevent us from growing.  I don’t think everyone who is against a gay lifestyle hates gay people, but many do seem consumed with anger over it, and this also stops our growth.

I believe love truly is the universal language, and if there was ever a time when we needed more of it, I would say it’s now. It’s been my experience, however, that we need to learn to love ourselves first, and I can’t imagine how anyone can honestly love themselves when they act in hurtful and unloving ways.

  1. Darryl, I hear you on this one. It amazes me when people express such anger or contempt against gays (or anything they don’t understand for that matter). We all had various upbringings, values and morals instilled in us. Judging others isn’t Godly, Christian or good human behavior. If someone was born with an unexplainable attraction to the same sex, it’s out of their control. We are all put here on this earth as you said for a reason and purpose. It’s okay to disagree with one’s lifestyle, but is it okay to judge without attempting to learn more first?

  2. Thank you for commenting Teresa. I also think it’s all right to disagree with someone’s lifestyle, but that we shouldn’t condemn the person for it. Understanding and love is the key. I personally have gay friends, and I love them very much.

  3. I agree, Darryl. who you decide to be intimate with is such a small part of who you are as a person. there is way too much emphasis on who we are physical with. we bring so much more to the world than that. we’ve battled about gender, race and now who we love. so much wasted energy.

  4. Thank you for your replies Debbie and Kat. I like what you both have said here. Hate is a strong word for me and one I try not to use. I try to use the word dislike instead. I hear people use hate for things they don’t like, and the word love for things they do. “They can hate a neighbor, but love their car. The bottom line is that we should try and remove the word hate from our vocabulary and use the word love when it comes to ourselves and others. The trick is to mean it.

  5. Hey Darryl I haven’t chatted with you in a while. I love this post I’ve been so frustrated lately with the issue of people talking down on gay people and the increased suicide rate..it’s such a shame. I reposted this on my facebook page and put my opinion at the top. Thank you for you insight I enjoy reading your blogs 🙂 I hope you are doing well.

  6. Thanks for re-posting it on your facebook page Crystal. I intend to write more on my feelings about gay people and why I can relate to them. I have a lot of gay friends in my life including a few relatives, and I feel fortunate to know them. I also feel fortunate to know you. Keep reading my blog and don’t hesitate to comment anytime you feel the need to.Take care.

  7. Very nicely said Darryl.
It is obvious that people who hate things are full of hate.
“I hate Obama.” “I hate ‘French’ Toast.” “I hate hemorrhoids.” Oops, bad example.
It eats away inside of them until they find an object to direct it at.
Try not to let the haters affect you.
Love conquers hate, light destroys darkness and honey attracts flies…oops, again.
The only thing I can suggest is paragraphs. My eyes are old and tired. ;O)
    Good job. Good song.

  8. Thank you for the reply Bob. I like your writing style. I do a fairly decent job at not letting this world affect me as far as the craziness goes. I do, however, let the good things affect me. It just seems like it’s getting a little more harder to find the good things than the craziness. Take care, and please don’t be a stranger to my blog.
